Dear Fellow Residents,
As you have probably heard, hurricane Sandy is on a collision course with the mid-Atlantic and Northeast. As of Friday morning, Sandy’s peak winds dropped to 80 mph (Category 1 hurricane). The official forecast from the National Hurricane Center forecasts the center to move over the Delaware Bay, with the cone of uncertainty spanning from Cape Hatteras up to eastern Long Island.
In the event the Village of Roslyn is severely impacted by this storm, please note, all public emergency agencies are prepared to respond immediately. Village Hall is in constant and continued contact with the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and LIPA’s command center. Our Department of Public Works is prepared to respond to non-life threatening emergencies, such as the removal of debris and small tree limbs from roadways and catch basins. However, they will be unable to respond to dangerous situations, such as downed electrical lines.
I urge you to brace for severe weather conditions and suggest you take precautions and be prepared by bringing in or securing loose objects outside your home, clearing your roof and storm drains, blocking points of entry where water can enter buildings and making sure you have the following items available:
· Water (one gallon per person, per day for at least 3 days)
· Non-perishable food (three-day supply)
· Non-electric can opener for food
· Radio (battery-powered or hand crank)
· Flashlights
· Batteries
· First aid kit, including medications
· Whistle
· Sanitation items
· Personal hygiene items
· Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
· Important family documents

Mayor John Durkin
On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the Village Administrative Staff I would like to welcome you to the Village of Roslyn’s website. Roslyn is a beautiful, historic village, nestled in the hills of Long Island’s Gold Coast. It is situated on Hempstead Harbor, and at one time was an active mercantile port. Today we are known for our collection of beautifully restored houses and buildings, historic monuments and vibrant Downtown. We are also home to the Bryant Library which hosts lectures, book signings and art exhibits and Gerry Park, a beautiful 16 acre green space in the middle of the Village where you can sleigh ride in the winter and enjoy outdoor concerts( sponsored by the Roslyn Chamber of Commerce) during the summer.
Our Downtown is filled with many wonderful shops and restaurants. You can make a day of it strolling through Roslyn, enjoying its natural beauty, its historic structures and browsing its one of kind boutiques, taking a break to have a leisurely lunch at any one of our casual spots, or staying later and dining at one of the many excellent restaurants we have to offer. And you can always catch a movie at the Roslyn Movie Theatre.
With a variety of neighborhoods, each special in its own way, Roslyn is a wonderful place to live and raise a family. We have a great school district, a strong sense of community, a solid infrastructure, a commitment to preservation, and a policy of responsible growth.
I hope you find our website user friendly and easy to navigate. We strive to communicate clearly and effectively to our residents and visitors. Please feel free to leave any comments or questions you have about the website or the Village.
Mayor John Durkin
The Roslyn Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that the budget for the 2 fiscal year contains a tax rate decrease of –2.02%. The budget actually decreases spending by $323,284, with most of the savings coming from the retirement of an outstanding bond.
The economic climate continues to be challenging with revenues projected to be down $54,108, but that decrease has been overcome by prudent financial planning and cost cutting measures.
The Roslyn budget contains spending decreases in several departments, including Village Attorney and Village Engineer. Sewer Maintenance and Solid Waste Disposal show slight increases.
The Board of Trustees will continue to closely monitor spending in the Village to ensure that every tax dollar is well spent and that every revenue generating mechanism is maximized. Mayor John Durkin commented that “It is truly unprecedented in this day and age that a taxpayer is told that his or her taxes are going down. The Board and I are pleased to tell the taxpayers of Roslyn just that --- your taxes are going down. The Board and I will continue to make every effort to continue this positive trend.”

The Village has availed itself to the benefits that may be available through contractual agreement with the Town of North Hempstead. There are many government functions that large towns can perform "in house" where a smaller village must contract out for these functions. One example is road signs. If the Village needs to replace a "Stop" sign, the sign is purchased from an outside sign manufacturer. The Town has its own sign shop and the intermunincipal agree would allow us to purchase signs from the Town, provided that they can supply them at lower cost. By exploring the various functions and services that are available from the Town, Roslyn Village hopes to further reduce operating costs. We are now entering our second year of this program. - Added on September 9, 2010
The businesses located in the Village's "Commercial Collection District" are required to utilize the Village containers located in the Old Northern Blvd. Parking Lot. A map of the the district is available in the "Publications" section of this site. Please note that an additional container has been added for "Cardboard Only". All cardboard must be flattened and placed in this designated recepticle only. No cardboard is to be placed in the dumpsters. Signs designating the appropriate containers are on the gates. - Added on November 3, 2008
Work is complete at the new park on the Village property located at the corner of East Broadway and Vernon Ave. This passive park provides a quiet location to sit and relax, have lunch or go for a quick stroll. Asphalt, concrete, and debris have been removed, a water meter vault installed for a sprinkler system and electric for lighting and sprinklering. The park is now open to the public. Please keep the park clean! - Added on February 8, 2008
